Joel Castro replied to the topic Full List of Nintendo Switch Games in the forum Shooting the Shit 7 years, 10 months ago
I don’t know about the Switch, honestly. It looks like a great concept, but some choices are confusing. I can deal with it being 300 bucks, but their decision to make a paid subscription plan for their online seems weird, especially when the online for the Wii and Wii U weren’t exactly bursting with life. Sure, there’s that whole free NES/SNES…[Read more]

It’ll be a 2 months later update, since I keep my phone, but am restricted to only making phone calls maybe once a week. Afterwards though, Im free to use electronics again.

2 crazy years later, I’m finally in the Air Force. Now, in about 28 days, I’ll be headed to Basic Military Training. That means you won’t hear from me at all for at least 2 months. I’m very excited, and I can’t wait to get it over with so I can get back to writing reviews again.

If you want a good puzzle game, The Witness is pretty damn great. Also, Day of the Tentacle is one of January’s free PS+ offerings lol

Joel Castro started the topic Final Fantasy XV – Impressions in the forum Shooting the Shit 7 years, 10 months ago
So, I finally got to the final act of Final Fantasy 15000.134, and here’s my current thoughts on what it does and doesn’t do well.
Pros:
– ABSOLUTELY gorgeous scenery to behold! The graphics are top-notch, the art style is very much Final Fantasy, and there’s not a single place that looks harsh on the eyes.
– Main story is simple, easy to…[Read more]

Only got 2 games this year for the holidays: Fallout 4 and Final Fantasy XV, the latter of which has consumed me. Got my wife Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and Pokemon Moon.

Lol its okay. And it’s a bog standard laptop. Intel HD gfx card, 4GB RAM, and stock everything. My mom has a similar desktop, but that sucker has 16GB of RAM. Everything else is average though, as far as I’ve seen. It runs Hearthstone and League of Legends like a dream, but those arent exactly heavy duty games.

That’s pretty much why I structure my reviews in a certain way. It gives readers a way to be able to read without feeling like they’re missing the point behind a more “on-the-spot” writing style. Not that those are bad, but it takes a certain talent to make a rambling review read really well. It just depends on what the writer feels is the best…[Read more]

Joel Castro replied to the topic How does everyone write their reviews? in the forum Writers Block 7 years, 11 months ago
Well, reviews at the end of the day are just the opinion of one person regarding one game. If a review becomes a critique, it has to be placed under the microscope a bit more, like seeing where it fits into the grand scheme of the greater world of media. In short, reviews are both opinion and buyers guides for the most part. Critique is examining…[Read more]

Mankind divided would have made it up to the top had it not been for the week main had it not been for the weak main storyline.

I always try to avoid spoilers too. Though I try to do the experiential side, its easier for me to do step by step. Maybe if I do videos next year it’ll be different

surprisingly, I haven’t played many strategy games. Don’t really have a good enough computer to run anything worthwhile except for retro pixel stuff.

Title is everything this time around. Now that the year has ended, what are everybody’s favorite games of this year? My picks pretty much haven’t changed, except for one game that got added. Here are my choices in no particular order:
– Dark Souls 3
– Doom 2016
– Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
– Furi
– Far Cry Primal
– Abzu
– Uncharted 4: A…[Read more]

Joel Castro replied to the topic So…anything new? in the forum Shooting the Shit 7 years, 11 months ago
Sounds exactly like Shadow of the Colossus to me. Wonky controls combined with excellent everything else. Heh, something tells me I may feel the same about this game. Idk, weird controls are my forte. As for hints, well unless the environments have much subtler hints as to where to go, I can’t see it being needed. Hell I got lost in Shadow of the…[Read more]

I may be on tonight, depending on what all Im doing. Plus, I’ve got some games to catch up on after renting FF15 and mainlining it for over a week. Great game, though flawed in many ways. Its light-years better than 13, and that’s a great thing.

Slow week lately. Let’s see, what am I up to?
– been playing Final Fantasy 15 quite a bit. I’m really enjoying it, and I had pretty low expectations going in after the utter disappointment that was the 13 trilogy. May review it soon, but it’ll be based off me not reaching the ending.
– planning a list explaining my picks for my GOTY list.…[Read more]

As the first post for this new thread, I’m curious as to how everyone prepares and writes their game reviews.
I usually start by making a pros and cons list. Once I’m ready to write the review, I go in the following order: story (plot, writing, characters), visuals (graphics, art, animation), gameplay (various dynamic and static mechanics,…[Read more]

Joel Castro started the topic The Game Awards – Results in the forum Shooting the Shit 7 years, 11 months ago
So the Game Awards have come and gone like a fart in the wind. Yeah, I was never a big fan of this awards show, as it seemed like a continuation of the non-caring, advertisement driven nonsense that the VGX awards were before this came and gave it a different pair of boots. In case you care, here are the results of each category (the winner will…[Read more]

Been playing Final Fantasy XV (rental). And…I’m very impressed. The gameplay immediately sold it for me, but the character interactions, the beautiful scenery, the open-world mentality that made me fall in love with FF12, and just the overall atmosphere make this the best Final Fantasy in a loooooong time. I wish the camera was better during…[Read more]
