I do think VR will become “the new way to game” eventually, kaenna. Traditional screen gaming will still be here, just like movies didn’t make books/radio/comics disappear, but the forefront will change. That said, that’ll happen long after VR finally hits the mainstream. First we’ll need to adapt to playing 3rd person in VR.
Here’s another…[Read more]

I forgot to mention this was shown off during (technically before) the Video Game Awards, AKA the Keighleys.

Nintendo showed their latest trailer for Breath of the Wild today. It’s got villages with NPCs, a flying fortress shaped like a bird, hints at new characters, and possibly a peek at Princess Zelda as Link bows before her.
Er… here’s the trailer below:
What do you guys think? Sweet, right? Totally. I…[Read more]

Jesus, mate, what a fantastic article! I'm still pissed Hello Games kept mum about this the whole time. I hope they aren't expecting apologies for the hate they got; they still deserved it for their […]

I guess this is how things will be from now on. We fought the good fight but we lost. Games will now simply ship incomplete and developers will slowly roll out the completion of games after the release. […]

Agreed, Rob. Death Standing would seem like a lock if it weren’t so early in development and a Sony exclusive. If it isn’t this year, a grand reveal would happen during the VGA in a future year.
VR games are certainly going to have a seat at the table for the first time in a big game award event. I wonder what they’ll name the category. With a…[Read more]

Right now I’m playing Pokemon Moon. I hadn’t played a mainline Pokemon game since Pokemon Yellow on the Game Boy Color (well, technically I played it on my GBA). I feel like I jumped back in on the perfect time with the perfect game to jump back in with.
I fully agree with your sentiments on SOMA. It’s like the developers weren’t confident in the…[Read more]

It seems the proper action to take, Rob, will be to wait for the second generation VR devices. Every device out to market now was conceived back before the FinFET revolution that happened in the first half of this year. Since then, a number of breakthroughs have happened that will make the older VR headsets obsolete. Last month Oculus released a…[Read more]

Since I’ve been out of the game, there’s been a lot of VR news. I haven’t jumped on the VR bandwagon yet because I still have more important things to spend what little money I have; but PSVR came out I think. Plus both Microsoft and Facebook showed off new all-in-one VR tech that has full motion tracking (not just gyro like the Gear VR). I’m…[Read more]

From the guy who directed Sicario (loved it), Prisoners (loved it) and Enemy (was too stoned to know if I loved it) comes another highly anticipated, single-word movie title: Arrival. Not to be confused with the 1996 Charlie Sheen movie The Arrival, this one stars Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner trying to stop world governments from starting a war…[Read more]

I think Marvel has found the secret sauce that prevents them from making a bad movie. In the same way Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man were different than the other Marvel movies (one being a space adventure and the other a heist movie), Dr. Strange also goes in its own direction while still feeling like a superhero movie. You’ll get a sense…[Read more]

I don’t love the Quantic Dream style of gameplay, but I loved Until Dawn to bits. The story was just superb, and I love the way it played with your expectations along with mashing several horror tropes. This is a game you want to go into completely blind.
I still want to try The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. I’ve also heard plenty of “it’s good but…[Read more]

I loved Gone Home, The Stanley Parable, Beyond Eyes, and to a certain extent I even liked Proteus, Qora and Home. I’d play The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Firewatch, The Witness and The Beginner’s Guide without question. In fact, there aren’t many I wouldn’t try.
What I find unappealing about Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is the narrative…[Read more]

I have nothing against walking simulators per se. However, I need them to have some meat on the bone. I headed to bed so I don’t have time to elaborate right now, but I don’t see myself playing this game even for free.

Black Mirror is a British TV show acquired by Netflix for this, their third, season. It’s an anthology what-if series like The Twilight Zone, where every episode is a new story, except it’s focused on post-modern sci-fi. Post-modern is the type of science fiction that seems only a few years or decades in the future, really close to our present…[Read more]
