Joel Castro started the topic Everyone's GOTY picks, now that it's (almost) over in the forum Shooting the Shit 8 years, 8 months ago
Title is everything this time around. Now that the year has ended, what are everybody’s favorite games of this year? My picks pretty much haven’t changed, except for one game that got added. Here are my choices in no particular order:
– Dark Souls 3
– Doom 2016
– Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
– Furi
– Far Cry Primal
– Abzu
– Uncharted 4: A…[Read more]

Never played the previous Team ICO games, always wanted to. Couldn’t afford them when they originally released, by the time I caught up they immediately fell down the backlog.

How would you compare the control frustrations to its predecessors?

I wanted to report that the tile format on the main page is a bit goofed up for me. The content doesn’t scale properly, such that you can only read some things in the boxes if you zoom out at the browser level (e.g., in Firefox on my Win10 machine in 1080p at 100% I cannot read any of the contributors’ names unless I edit the zoom to ~80%).
As a…[Read more]

Sounds exactly like Shadow of the Colossus to me. Wonky controls combined with excellent everything else. Heh, something tells me I may feel the same about this game. Idk, weird controls are my forte. As for hints, well unless the environments have much subtler hints as to where to go, I can’t see it being needed. Hell I got lost in Shadow of the…[Read more]

To follow up on the TLG talk from a few days ago… I beat the game on Sunday, then helped a friend beat it Monday night via shareplay. There is a lot to like about the game, great story, great sound and visuals. But the controls are really bad. I don’t think I’ve played a game that was this frustrating since Too Human. I’m working on a review for…[Read more]

Since I last checked in I banged out the Day of the Tentacle remaster and have begun working through Uncharted 4. Loved Day of the Tentacle – I had never played that in my youth. The puzzles were actually more fun and less frustrating (trial and error) than Grim Fandango’s

I’ve barely had time to game lately at all. In the last couple of days I started working through a copy of Uncharted 4 that a friend loaned me. It’s actually pretty solid – I phrase it that way because I was not in love with the earlier entries in the series

Great writeup! In my opinion it's a great foundation for the game to build upon. All the base building and things aside, some subtler improvements to the UI and navigation (as well as ambient sounds like […]

I may be on tonight, depending on what all Im doing. Plus, I’ve got some games to catch up on after renting FF15 and mainlining it for over a week. Great game, though flawed in many ways. Its light-years better than 13, and that’s a great thing.

I bought it today, I can stream parts of it if you want, or even share play if it’s available, just sign on PSN and send me a message. I’ll be on most of tonight and all of tomorrow.

I’m swamped. I only get enough time to play 3DS on the weekends.
Oh, I’m considering buying The Last Guardian, but I’m waiting for more reviews. The ratings of reviewers I trust have been rather mixed. I loved Shadow of the Colossus but TLG looks like they upped the frustration three-fold. I’m hoping an update addresses the frame rate and…[Read more]

Slow week lately. Let’s see, what am I up to?
– been playing Final Fantasy 15 quite a bit. I’m really enjoying it, and I had pretty low expectations going in after the utter disappointment that was the 13 trilogy. May review it soon, but it’ll be based off me not reaching the ending.
– planning a list explaining my picks for my GOTY list.…[Read more]

Joel Castro started the topic How does everyone write their reviews? in the forum Writers Block 8 years, 8 months ago
As the first post for this new thread, I’m curious as to how everyone prepares and writes their game reviews.
I usually start by making a pros and cons list. Once I’m ready to write the review, I go in the following order: story (plot, writing, characters), visuals (graphics, art, animation), gameplay (various dynamic and static mechanics,…[Read more]

Joel Castro started the topic The Game Awards – Results in the forum Shooting the Shit 8 years, 8 months ago
So the Game Awards have come and gone like a fart in the wind. Yeah, I was never a big fan of this awards show, as it seemed like a continuation of the non-caring, advertisement driven nonsense that the VGX awards were before this came and gave it a different pair of boots. In case you care, here are the results of each category (the winner will…[Read more]

Been playing Final Fantasy XV (rental). And…I’m very impressed. The gameplay immediately sold it for me, but the character interactions, the beautiful scenery, the open-world mentality that made me fall in love with FF12, and just the overall atmosphere make this the best Final Fantasy in a loooooong time. I wish the camera was better during…[Read more]

xsuicidesn0wmanx replied to the topic There's been tons of VR News in the forum Shooting the Shit 8 years, 8 months ago
I still have to try VR out, but my initial thoughts have me thinking that VR would be perfect for episodic content. I’m thinking something closer to how TV shows work rather than the garbage game developers try to shove on us now. If I had a game for VR I’d try to split the entire experience into 30-60 minute long episodes and either release the…[Read more]
