The content area in the first example. It’s a black background. There’s no red square in that one.

I s’pose you’re right.
I didn’t go into the PlayStation Meeting with much of any false expectations. I saw reactions from other people who were expecting something like their E3 or Experience events, hoping for a new game announcement. To me it was always just a business meeting and that’s what it ended up being.

The long paragraph I wrote about was the one from the first image.

Rob, I apologize for my rushed response (I’m at work). I see that you mentioned the bug already.
Anyway, I like the second look more but I have reservations about how they’ll work with some images. The block could cover the focal point in an image. At first, I was also afraid the opacity might not be high enough and that some of the colors…[Read more]

For the most part, I agree. There was a time when I would have bought the game no-questions-asked. Now I'll only buy it if either it scores a 80% or better from reviewers I trust. ACTUALLY, hold on, no… […]

Anyway, I forgot to say it my comment on your YT video, but good luck in your Air Force endeavors. Real great people in there.

Oh, that was about 4K/HDR, not simply HDR. In essence, they’re upgrades of past games for the PS4 Pro, not for patches for better lighting on the Phat & Slim.
On that, I think we need to wait before we jump the gun. It was a Japanese interview right around the time of the latest announcements, and we all know how unreliable those things are.

I think Sony should have taken a page from Nintendo and had a video presentation instead.

What’s the HDR patch fiasco?

The cynic in me wants to blame the delay on trying to polish up the new graphical advances in the PS4 Pro upgrade. Like, they didn't plan on having to add stuff for the Pro back when the new release date was […]

I slept on it, and I’ve decided that I’m very likely skipping the PS4 Pro unless the next upgrade takes too long to arrive and/or if there’s a significant price drop.
Windows 10 is getting HDR support this year, and it’s very likely I’m building a VR living room. This means a PC for my living room that will be powerful enough to play 4K, so a PS4…[Read more]

Welcome, Tom.
So far I’m mostly handling Nintendo stuff, not because it’s my “territory” or anything, but just because I have a soft spot for them. Though it isn’t helping that Nintendo is being absolutely tight lipped with highly anticipated news. Doesn’t mean I don’t cover stuff outside of Nintendo, however. So, yeah I think covering what you…[Read more]

Although I can’t recall specifics, there were some shots of some games running on the Pro in 1080p compared to how they ran on the standard PS4; and they got additional upgrades like more LOD (level of detail) and additional vegetation. But they didn’t compare that same shot to the game running on the Pro in 4K…
…so now I’m wondering: If you…[Read more]

PS4 Slim: $300, PS4 Pro: $400! Holy shit.

Every PS4, even the old ones, will support HDR through a firmware update. That’s huge.

It isn’t odd at all. If someone plays a PS4 Neo (now “Pro”) on a regular 1080p HDTV, then developers must make their games able to run at lower resolutions with increased graphical settings elsewhere. A game that runs 4K30 would have a setting to run at 1080p with higher framerates or more anti-aliasing.

I sure do hope so. I love how PC games let you change settings to make them run better on your specific PC, and I’d love it if making games for multiple builds of the same platform (PS4/Neo, XBO/Scorpio) eased developers into the idea of letting players manipulate the graphics to their liking.
Prefer 1080p60 over 4K30? Go ahead!

A friendly reminder that the show is streaming on YouTube here and it starts at 12PM Pacific and 3pm Eastern.
I’m expecting a more business-centric show, so if it shows off some neat games, I’ll be pleased. The PS4 Slim has already been leaked; it’s smaller, quieter, lacks an optical out for audio IIRC, and the DualShock 4 Slim’s controller’s…[Read more]
