  • Joel Castro started the topic Favorite Games + Explanations in the forum Shooting the Shit 9 years ago

Everyone has a list of his or her favorite video games. Most people like to put them up as a numbered list, but I feel this becomes a ranking system, not a personal list of games that have influenced your life at some point. I’m guilty of doing this in the past, but here I’m gonna try something different. I’m going to list my personal favor…[Read more]

I’m sure you’ve heard of it before, but might not know what the big deal is exactly. It’s called Google Analytics, and at face value it tells us how many people visit the site per day and gives us a hint at where they are coming from. But there are a lot of data points in google analytics that helps us compete with other websites similar to ours.…[Read more]

Ehh, Destiny is more a mixed bag for people, though I still enjoy it immensely. The combat is what I consider to be zen, and that’s what pulls me back (I’m that weirdo who couldn’t care less about loot in a loot-fest. Just make the combat good and I’ll come back for that alone). I was thinking more universally praised games for ones people loved.…[Read more]

Ah man, I was having real trouble thinking of one. For the most part, even games I don’t enjoy I can still understand why others would love them so it makes it hard for me to hate them. I had to google this subject to see if any results could get my brain juices flowing and thankfully, it did.

Destiny. That game is a vile scheme. On a scale of…[Read more]

Hell, I’ll go out on a limb and say the entire RE series. I prefer the more psychological horror of Silent Hill when it comes to getting spooked.

I’m going to go with one I know I’ll get shit for, and I probably wouldn’t have thought of it if Resident Evil 4 wasn’t already mentioned. Resident Evil Remake on GameCube. It’s not that I didn’t like Resident Evil when it came out on PS1, I loved it. But when the Remake came out, everyone went all ape shit saying this is the best game ever, and…[Read more]

Title is obvious. What games exist that, in spite of everyone praising it to high heavens, you just cannot see what they’re talking about.

I’ll go first with (sorry, Elheber) Resident Evil 4. I’m sorry, but I don’t find this game enjoyable in the slightest. It has its scary moments, but it’s ultimately hampered by the unnecessary campy tone,…[Read more]

Nah, I didn’t read too much into “one solitary encounter.” Firstly, the examples he gave were two; the same as the first two I gave. Then I went on in my article with 3 more examples and then mentioned I saw many more during the live stream that I didn’t go over because they’re too many. There’s an encounter with explosive barrels up a hill (…[Read more]

I really wouldn’t worry too much about Zelda. No game will ever be perfect, but this game is making me want to give Zelda a fair shot for the first time in a while. I don’t think I’ve played a Zelda game since the SNES/GBA Port.

Maybe it was, either way playing SC with only a d-pad is horrible. I think I made it through about 10 minutes and had to turn it off.

  • Joel Castro replied to the topic Eiji Aonuma Apparently Proving Me Right in the forum Shooting the Shit 9 years ago

Or there could be other solutions that have yet to be revealed. He only gave 2 examples, and when it comes to emergent gameplay, there are still scripts to follow either way. I think you’re reading too much into one solitary encounter before playing the game for yourself. For all you know, there could very well be a solution where you use bombs to…[Read more]

The N-Gage game was a port? I thought it was a brand new game!

  • elheber started the topic Eiji Aonuma Apparently Proving Me Right in the forum Shooting the Shit 9 years ago

So a few days ago I posted an op-ed here about Eiji Aonuma not understanding modern game design, particularly emergent gameplay. In it I specifically cited the beehive and boulder encounter as examples that he doesn’t understand what emergent gameplay is.

Just yesterday, Edge Magazine posted an interview with Aonuma in which uses those same two…[Read more]

I had forgotten about that, when they first introduced it they hadn’t mentioned that and it was on my ad-block, so I tried to add it back to the block list. It’s something that should have been optional in the sense you have to turn it on, not off.

  • xsuicidesn0wmanx replied to the topic Lets Play a Game Called "I Hate You" in the forum Shooting the Shit 9 years ago

Oh you think that’s bad? I’ve got the N-Gage port! Top that!

  • elheber commented on the post, Pokémon Go's Success 9 years ago

Very nice article. It's amazing how Nintendo is reaping all the benefits even though they didn't develop the game (that was Niantic) nor even publish the game (that was the Pokemon Co.). Hell, Nintendo […]

There’s a setting to disable the bell. I disabled it via the settings. I think it’s called “Show Desktop Notifications.”

  • elheber replied to the topic Lets Play a Game Called "I Hate You" in the forum Shooting the Shit 9 years ago

Oh man, I don’t really play bad games anymore; not since I was old enough to know the difference. I grew up a poor gamer so I tried to spend my money wisely. If I were to name a game, it’d be from the NES/SNES days I guess.

OH wait, I remember one! Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory but not the Xbox/PC one… no that game is great… I mean the shitty G…[Read more]
