You’d be surprised how many people I’ve encountered that hold this belief wholeheartedly. It’s absolutely baffling to me.

I actually was able to completely sneak by a few enemy fights during my play time, so it’s a completely viable option now in Uncharted 4. It’s extremely difficult, yes, but not impossible. And it’s one of those things that fall into gameplay and story segregation, which happens in a lot of games. Sometimes it’s acceptable, and other times it’s…[Read more]

Mega Man X was a wonderful series. It was original, action-packed, and a great sequel to the classic Mega Man. However, Capcom has decided to take the series away from people, claiming there?s not a large enough fan base to make any more sequels. If you consider the games from Mega Man X6 on, it?s not hard to tell why Capcom made this decision.…[Read more]

I think the biggest issue is that we have yet to develop a critical language for gaming that doesn’t involve taking from other mediums. We still use film-like qualifiers like cinematic for games when really, they don’t always facilitate such a thing. Gaming needs an overhaul in the way we write critique, and that’s starting to happen in more…[Read more]

Nate probably wanted to forget about his brother’s “death”, since it happened in one of the worst possible ways. That’s actually how some people deal with grief: choosing to forget it ever happened and moving on with their lives. Joel from The Last of Us did the exact same thing with every single tragedy he suffered through, if you remember. So…[Read more]

Seems like a great idea overall. I’m not exactly an expert on using Twitch either, but I like this idea.

Can’t say I ever enjoyed Borderlands. I don’t know, the gunplay never felt right to me.

Aaaaaand I just finished Uncharted 4. I didn’t think Among Thieves could be topped, but…A Thief’s End is just better in every way. Better gameplay, better set pieces, better story, better character interaction, and it actually feels like you’re on a treasure hunt this time. I rarely do this, but if I did rating scales anymore, Uncharted 4 has…[Read more]

Yeah, I’ve been playing more Uncharted as well. So far, I absolutely love all the subtle changes they’ve made to the formula, as well as the much better pacing of the narrative overall.

I understand that people want satisfying gameplay to latch onto, because we all want to enjoy the games we play. I just get annoyed when people think that’s all games need to be, and it’s why I don’t latch onto fighting games, MOBAs, and most multiplayer-exclusive games. There’s no incentive for me to play other than to just get better, and that…[Read more]

In my times running around on forums, a certain grouping of gamers has baffled me to no end. These people are the ones who explicitly, vehemently, and without any hesitation, claim that video games should only focus on the actual “gameplay” aspect of a game, and that nothing else should matter. Not story, not characters, not anything other than…[Read more]

It’s become quite clear to me over the past couple of years that video games are in serious need of a genre overhaul. No, I’m not talking about the medium as a whole, but rather the games within said medium. In any other entertainment medium, genres are set by what story pattern, tropes, and character archetypes fall within either the pages or the…[Read more]

I was a member of a website called movie forums for a while, and they have a feature that they only use during Oscar night. This feature is basically a giant live chat for discussing live results with other members. Who else thing this would be an awesome idea for things like E3, Gamescom, the DICE Awards, or any other major gaming show? Just fo…[Read more]

I would have split my choices between Western and Japanese style RPGs, but I haven’t played too many examples in either category, unless you want half my JRPG list to be Final Fantasy and/or Squaresoft games. As for Western RPGs, I’ve only really played the Mass Effect trilogy, Skyrim, Dragon Age, and The Witcher 3. Not even sure what to call Dark…[Read more]

I love RPGs. The way they allow for so many choices in terms of gameplay, narrative, and world-building is just staggering. I’ve played a lot of them over the years, and I think it’s safe to say, it’s the genre I identify with and play the most overall. So, I thought I’d talk about some of my favorites in that genre.
A few rules about this…[Read more]

Yeah, I kinda was talking about game feel with my first qualifier, though I should’ve specified that it was what I was talking about. I suppose people only see game feel as something that allows a game to play smooth as silk half the time, and that bugs the crap out of me (had a number of arguments with someone on Gamespot about this subject, and…[Read more]

Soulsborne (Demon’s, Dark, and Bloodborne) – the incredible combat gameplay is what hooked me, and what kept me…[Read more]
