Retro publisher Dotemu took the internet by storm this morning by announcing Streets of Rage 4. Dormant since 1994, the new side-scrolling beat ’em up is being developed by Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games and will be a return to the ‘iconic arcade brawler known for its radical fights, jammin’ 90’s beats and dashing sparring gloves and bandanas.’ While the original Streets of Rage trilogy was published by Sega, no word of the level of their involvement was given.
Streets of Rage 4 will feature ‘hand-drawn visuals’ from Lizardcube, developer of the recent Wonderboy: The Dragon’s Trap remake, and classic ‘arcade-style’ gameplay from Guard Crush Games. Building ‘upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay’, the game will feature ‘new mechanics,’ including online co-op, ‘a fresh story and a gauntlet of dangerous stages with a serious crime problem.’
No release date or platforms were announced at this time either.
