Square Enix Looking Into Possible Vita Port of Adventures of Mana

After many fan requests for a Playstation Vita port in the West, Square Enix responds with a definite maybe.

For many of us, our first experience with a Mana game started with the Secret of Mana on our Super Nintendo, however this was actually the second game in the Mana series. Adventures of Mana is a 3d reimagining of the first game in the Mana series. Originally released on Gameboy as Final Fantasy Adventure in North America, and Mystic Quest in Europe(not to be confused with Final Fantasy Mystic Quest). Final Fantasy Adventure has previously been remade as a 2d RPG on the Game Boy Advance under the name Sword of Mana.

According to Masaru Oyamada, producer of Adventures of Mana, “the fact it even had ‘Final Fantasy’ in the title, many of the staff who worked on the project were deeply involved with the Final Fantasy series.” Oyamada promises they made sure “not to upset any of what made it great in the first place, while putting in things that were impossible to depict under the limitations of the original Game Boy hardware and making it more comfortable and intuitive to play, as befits a modern game.” While the main improvement is to take the game into a 3d world, the original composer, Kenji Ito, has returned to add an “updated and even more dramatic re-arrangement of the soundtrack.”

“I will be very happy to see Adventures of Mana, the starting point for the whole Mana series, being played again by the people who played and loved it when it first came out, as well as by new players who will get that same emotional experience that people did the first time round.”

In response to the increasing number of requests for a Playstation Vita port, the development team behind Adventures of Mana said “Thank you for all of your comments on a PS Vita edition of Adventures of Mana. We’ve been listening to your feedback and because of your passion for the game, we’re going to look into making a PS Vita version of Adventures of Mana for the west. We can’t guarantee we’ll be able to make this happen but we will see what we can do.”

Adventures of Mana released on iOS and Android yesterday, Feb 4th. You can check them out at the links below:
