Michael Ironside confirms his involvement with the new Splinter Cell project.
It would appear that Ubisoft has a new game Splinter Cell game in development. While it has always been assumed that Ubisoft would make another Splinter Cell game, few would have guessed that the original voice of Sam Fisher would be involved. Crossing Eden, a member on the popular NeoGAF forums, broke this news earlier today citing a trusted source and verified by ‘an acquaintance by degrees’. Crossing Eden has proven to be reliable in the past, revealing early video of Assassin’s Creed Unity on the PS4 prior to it’s launch, while also dropping key details on the characters and setting for Watch Dogs 2. Considering their track record it’s pretty safe to say the information being provided is true.
Fans of the series will recall that Ironside was replaced as the voice of Sam Fisher for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, citing difficulties with the complexities of doing motion capture for a much younger and more nimble character. The community was not quite as accepting of the change as Ubisoft had hoped, even going as far as petitioning Ubisoft to bring Ironside back to voice the character.
It would appear that Edens source is a contact who is connected to Ubisoft, though “not bound by NDA”, and had seen Ironside and one of his daughters in the Ubi Toronto Studio earlier this summer. According to the source, Ironside was in Toronto “for the movie first and worked in the studio visit while in town.” It was while filming the movie that Ironside had “mentioned he was working on a new Splinter Cell,” though this does not specifically indicate whether he will reprise his role as Sam Fisher.
Although there hasn’t been any official confirmation, Eden’s source did state “It’s happening” as the only information they have been able to get on the new game so far. It is not uncommon for Ubisoft studios to collaborate with one another, with the Ubi Toronto studio often contributing motion capture for games being developed at other studios(i.e. Watch Dogs 2, For Honor).
