collection coming this september
Nintendo have revealed ports of three classic Mario games heading to switch.
The long-rumoured collection was officially revealed during a special Nintendo Direct last Thursday held in honor of Mario’s 35th birthday. The show looked back at the plumber’s history, as well as containing a handful of announcements related to Mario games on the Nintendo Switch.
One of these announcements was the introduction of Mario 3D All-Stars – a collection containing three 3D Mario games from yesteryear. These games are Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. The collection enhances the graphics (but doesn’t give an overhaul) of the titles to bring them up to Switch standards, and includes a music player so you can listen to their respective soundtracks while you play.
Rumours of a collection started circulating earlier this year when insiders claimed that Nintendo were due to release it. Oddly enough, the leak didn’t predict that Super Mario Galaxy 2 would be left out of the equation. Shortly after the collection was officially announced, some people weren’t happy with the exclusion of Mario’s second intergalactic outing.
Fans were also unhappy with Nintendo’s handling of the release; if you want your hands on the collection, you’ll only have until March 31st 2020 to nab it both physically and digitally before it disappears off the face of the earth. It’s unclear exactly why Nintendo have done this, but some have suggested that they will sell the games individually at $30 a pop while others have wildly speculated full remakes will be released for the game for $60 each.
What do you think of the collection? Will you be picking it up or has the exclusion of Galaxy 2 stopped you? Let us know in the comments.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars releases 18th September 2020 for the Nintendo Switch.
