Servers to be taken offline later this year

Naughty Dog – the award winning studio Behind the Uncharted franchise have announced they are ceasing online support for their titles on PS3.

In a move that is ‘bittersweet’ (according to the blog post published on their website), award winning game developers Naughty Dog announced the ending of support for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, The Last of Us and the Last of Us Left Behind. It’s important to note that only the multiplayer segments of the game are going to be unavailable.

Senior communications manager at the studio Scott Lowe had this to say on the ending of the support:

“Uncharted and The Last of Us multiplayer on the PS3 are defining entries in Naughty Dog’s history and we’ve been honored to support the passionate communities that have grown around them for almost a decade. We have so many fond memories from playing alongside you throughout the years.”

The servers in question have been running for a decade now, first operating for Uncharted 2 which is part of one of Naughty Dog’s most known franchises. The game was released as a PS3 exclusive (as with other titles and most of the games in the company’s catalogue) and the multiplayer portion of the game was part of the success, allowing players to duke it out in deathmatches.

The Last of Us had a similar setup, taking place on maps from the singeplayer part of the game.

As a sendoff, Naughty Dog is giving everyone a chance to play the multiplayer packs for free. Heading on over to the PlayStation store, the packs are free of charge to anyone who owns the original game.

The servers will be shutting down September 3rd 2019 at 5PM PT.

Naughty Dog are set to release The Last of Us 2, revealed in 2016 during a Sony event. The game will not be shown off at E3 2019, it has been announced.
