As gamers across the world pledge support for video games, Kickstarter pledges its love for gaming.
Kickstarter has released some juicy statistics detailing the incredible support for the crowd funding platforms tabletop and video game submissions for 2015. Video games amassed $46,177,705, or nearly 32% of the $144,407,094 pledged support for games in 2015, with 480,372 of the total 978,189 backers. Both tabletop and video games hit major milestones this year, with tabletop game Exploding Kittens, from Elan Lee, Shane Small, and Matthew Inman, becoming the most backed project in Kickstarter history — and the most funded games project ever — raising nearly $8.8 million from a record-shattering 219,000 backers.
Kickstarter added, “Tabletop games are definitely experiencing a major cultural moment, reflected in the breadth of innovative projects in that arena, but video games creators raised many a triumphant banner in 2015.” Among the most successful video games on Kickstarter, Koji Igarashis’ Bloodstained held the top spot with $5.5 million in pledges from 64,867 backers setting a then record for most funded video game.
