Musk v Fortnite

Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX (and part-time gamer) has sparked a Twitter Rivalry after posting a snapshot of a fabricated news article:

Fortnite hit back a few hours later with a roast of their own:

Musk replied to the tweet by claiming “reality is hard”. Thousands of people reacted to the 47 year old’s – some agreed with his joke while others defended the 100 player battle royale phenomenon. Popular Fortnite streamer Myth was one of the defenders:

Elon struck back:

The internet followed the feud with Elon Musk’s tweet amassing over 750,000 likes. Here’s some of my favorite responses:

Fortnite shot to fame just over a year ago after Epic Games released a free to play segment called battle royale where 100 players duke it out on an island to claim the last person standing. The game gained traction, especially with the younger demographic who idolize streamers like Myth and Ninja. Sure enough, the game industry recognized the continued success of Fortnite, rushing to implement battle royale into their own games. Dying Light, Battlerite, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Paladins and H1Z1. Furthermore, several titles have spawned since Fornite’s success.

Epic Games’s title doesn’t show any signs of slowing down either; In August, Fortnite received near 80 million concurrent players – coming close to Minecraft’s 90 million. Despite this, Fortnite is undoubtedly a marmite title; you love it or you hate it and it’s clear which side Elon Musk resides on.
