Spidey senses are more that just tingling
Spider-Man Day has passed us, but that does not mean that the merriment has to end. The reason for that is the new Spider-Man game coming out on the PlayStation 4 in just under a month. Insomniac Games have really outdone themselves this time with a Spider-Man game that actually looks decent. In fact, it looks pretty damn good. The swinging looks natural, the city actually looks like New York instead of a generic city, and the combat will make you feel like a web-slinging badass.
Though this is a game that has gotten quite a bit of media coverage, there may be a few things that have escaped mass attention. So below are a few things that might be exciting to know about that may have gone unnoticed.
A New Story
The story of this particular Spider-Man game is a brand new one, meaning it has never been in a movie or the comics. You will be seeing some familiar characters, but they might be interacting with each other a bit differently. Some might even behave in a fashion that seems “out of character.” The thing to remember is that, because this is an original story that doesn’t really fit in the typical timeline, they can manipulate the characters a little bit. It might be a bit disconcerting at first, but it might really pay off in the end.
Experienced Spidey
For whatever reason, it does seem that many of the previous Spider-Man games start off with Peter Parker becoming the hero. Even if they’re not about the radioactive spider biting fiasco, they show the transformation of him as a crime fighter and person like in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Insomniac throws that old recipe off a skyscraper and tries something different. In this game, Peter is no longer the Toby Maguire dork in high school that gets beaten up by the guy from Magic Mike. He has already been fighting crime for quite some time. So we have a new story and an older Spider-Man which is somehow actually new.
Mary Jane is a Playable Character
If you thought all your time in this game was going to be swinging around Manhattan making thugs wish they had stayed in bed, then you were wrong. Mary Jane Watson will also be appearing and be controllable. She’s a reporter who is willing to do anything to get the scoop, so while playing as her, stealth is going to be vital. It’s going to be fascinating to see the story told from another point of view. And switching gears like that periodically will certainly keep anyone from getting too bored. If it’s possible to get bored swinging through the air with the greatest of ease.
Different Costumes
This particular aspect of the game has been talked about and highly publicised, mainly because it looks incredible. Not only will the different outfits have Spidey look like a spiffy, swinging spectacle, but they will also grant him different abilities. Everyone starts off with the same classic suit, but those who pre-order the game will get 3 more. Those being the Spider Punk which gives Spidey a spiky mohawk, the Iron Spider inspired by the Avengers movie, and the Velocity Suit which allows you to move faster and glows in the dark. If you do not wish to pre-order, then don’t despair. You can unlock all of those suits in game when you get the chance. Unlocking all of them is going to prove to be a good time. And there are a lot more than I have just mentioned. 11 different suits have been confirmed so far so it hard to imagine how many there will actually be.
The wait is almost over. Spider-Man will be released on September 7th on PlayStation 4 only.
