Aaaaaand I just finished Uncharted 4. I didn’t think Among Thieves could be topped, but…A Thief’s End is just better in every way. Better gameplay, better set pieces, better story, better character interaction, and it actually feels like you’re on a treasure hunt this time. I rarely do this, but if I did rating scales anymore, Uncharted 4 has…[Read more]

Yeah, I’ve been playing more Uncharted as well. So far, I absolutely love all the subtle changes they’ve made to the formula, as well as the much better pacing of the narrative overall.

I understand that people want satisfying gameplay to latch onto, because we all want to enjoy the games we play. I just get annoyed when people think that’s all games need to be, and it’s why I don’t latch onto fighting games, MOBAs, and most multiplayer-exclusive games. There’s no incentive for me to play other than to just get better, and that…[Read more]

Haven’t finished reading the whole post yet, but I wanted to get my thoughts out before I forget them.
I think you have a very valid point, and I’ve noticed games that these multiplayer only games(i.e. Evolve, Unreal, Titanfall, etc..) all seem to suffer from the same pitfalls. Because there really isn’t any story, no character building, or…[Read more]

In my times running around on forums, a certain grouping of gamers has baffled me to no end. These people are the ones who explicitly, vehemently, and without any hesitation, claim that video games should only focus on the actual “gameplay” aspect of a game, and that nothing else should matter. Not story, not characters, not anything other than…[Read more]

Sounds like a good time to buy stock in Nintendo if you’re betting on the new consoles being a success. A lot of research will be needed for a good article on this though.

I setup a basic page for this at gamelust.com/twitch. Haven’t been feeling good lately so I’m going to be working on this slowly.
Twitch does not support ‘host mode’ for embedded streams, so I’ll have to write a workaround for this. I plan on using my ajax application to automatically update the twitch stream iframe to display the video feed I…[Read more]

I already started to build it, but the host I have wont allow me to use node.js so I can write the server friendly version. I can apply the long polling version, which is based on the current comment system, but it could cause our site to get shut down if too many people join.
How about this, tomorrow I’ll look into making a page that…[Read more]

Dang, I want to write so much but I’m about to leave for a thing, so I’ll get right to my biggest point (I’ll come back later to elaborate):
I’m a utilitarian when it comes to this. Genres names should be descriptive of what is most useful to the player. For narrative mediums like books or movies, they’re generally defined by the types of…[Read more]

To me, there’s substantially different. On the surface, JRPGs are about a party of heroes (usually 4 for some reason) that set out on a classical hero’s journey. And by “classical”, I mean “structurally” and also…[Read more]

It’s become quite clear to me over the past couple of years that video games are in serious need of a genre overhaul. No, I’m not talking about the medium as a whole, but rather the games within said medium. In any other entertainment medium, genres are set by what story pattern, tropes, and character archetypes fall within either the pages or the…[Read more]

I was a member of a website called movie forums for a while, and they have a feature that they only use during Oscar night. This feature is basically a giant live chat for discussing live results with other members. Who else thing this would be an awesome idea for things like E3, Gamescom, the DICE Awards, or any other major gaming show? Just fo…[Read more]

I would have split my choices between Western and Japanese style RPGs, but I haven’t played too many examples in either category, unless you want half my JRPG list to be Final Fantasy and/or Squaresoft games. As for Western RPGs, I’ve only really played the Mass Effect trilogy, Skyrim, Dragon Age, and The Witcher 3. Not even sure what to call Dark…[Read more]

I’m not sure what my top 10 would look like either, and I’m sure it would change quite often as I have a lot of RPG’s I need to play that are sitting on the shelf. Rather than list the top 10, I’ll just list games I know would be competing to be in that top 10. Final Fantasy IV & VI, Suikoden, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Elder Scrolls…[Read more]

I loved DX:HR. My list would include Borderlands 2, Undertale and Pokemon. I’m pretty much 100% sure Witcher 3 will break into my top 10 as soon as I finish the game, but the problem with me and RPGs at the moment is that I don’t get enough time to sink my teeth in for the most part.
Also, I’m sure I’d have a separate list for JRPGs and WRPGs.…[Read more]

I just finished Uncharted 4. Tomorrow I’ll get my hands on the multiplayer and afterwards I’ll write a review. I won’t say it’s my favorite of the series, but it certainly is the best. And then I’m doing a deep dive into Overwatch.
