Fallout 4 Details From Quakecon

Just in case you want more Fallout 4 Info.

I know you do…don’t lie.

Although no photos or videos were allowed at the Quakecon presentation, the gaming industry had plenty of people there taking notes and drinking in every word from Fallout 4 Director, Todd Howard, who began with talking about one thing we already know, that the game starts in the past. He goes on to talk about the Mr. Handy seen in the previously released gameplay videos stating that not only the outside of the robots is built, but also the insides so we can blow all their pieces off! Makes sense to me! In case you’re wondering if the in-game conversations will be bland, there have been thousands of lines of dialogue that has been recorded for the player character alone. Even better, over 1,000 names were programmed into our dear butler, Wadsworth, such as Mr.Matthews, Mr. McFly, Mr. Boobies, and……Mr. Fuckface!

Dogmeat was shown to be developed off of a real German Shepherd named River that belongs to someone on the Bethesda staff. Dogmeat is only one of a dozen available companions that you will meet throughout the game. Unlike Fallout: New Vegas, we will only be able to travel with one companion at a time, which is’t a bad thing. One thing I definitely feel is overkill on New Vegas is that you can’t walk into a room of raiders without Boone and ED-E blasting peoples faces off and melting them to a steamy ash pile. That’s kind of annoying when Boone shoot’s Cook-Cook’s face off when you need the head in good condition. Anyways, I’m getting sidetracked…damn Boone! Preston Garvey, the leader of the Commonwealth Minutemen and his handy dandy Laser Musket will also be an available companion. The next companion introduced is Piper, who resides in Diamond City (Fenway Park, Home of the Boston Red Sox). Piper is said to get a little bit fresh with the player character, which means! Ding! Romance. Apparently, the game will keep track of how each character actually feels about you, opening up the possibility of relationships. Howard says, “With the humans, it can even lead to romances and that is regardless of whatever gender you are playing. We spent a lot of time on this mechanic. They have a lot of personality. You can also play without a companion, and we have special perks for if you want to play as kind of a lone wanderer.”

The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes have been highly emphasized in Fallout 4 and completely form the player character. Perks will be much more linked to your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. than before. Also, skills have actually been replaced with Perks. Like Fallout 3, Perks will be awarded at each level rather than every other level in New Vegas. Howard tells us “You have this Vault Tech poster with all of your perks, and there is a separate perk for each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and each value of that S.P.E.C.I.A.L. from 1 to 10,” Howard adds. “Each perk, except for a few exceptions, has multiple ranks. We have combined the previous skill system into this as well. If there are 70 base perks and you add all of the ranks, you’re getting around 275 of those. We’ve found that this gets us some really cool different play styles. It’s a very very cool and fun leveling system in the game.”

There will be multiple levels of enemies like before, including Legendary enemies, such as a Legendary Feral Ghoul. Also, ghouls have more ability than before in that they can crawl through windows and navigate other obstacles more efficiently, as if they weren’t enough of a pain in the past. Safe cracking, lock picking (bobby pins, who knew!), and terminal hacking were also shown. The terminal is much like the previous 2 Fallout installments. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please go play Fallout 3.

Overall the game looks to have been improved upon in almost every single way, from more cinematic encounters during conversation (you can talk to more than one person at a time, too), to the movement of the characters, to the responsive environment. Fallout 4 cannot make it’s way to my Xbox One soon enough.

In other recent Fallout news, Prima has announced their limited edition Vault Dweller’s Survival Guide, while Loot Crate and Bethesda have teamed up for a very limited Fallout Loot Crate.

Fallout 4 will be available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC starting November 10th 2015, or 103 days from now (July 30, 2015).
