We're shocked too
In a business decision that has come completely out of left field, Bethesda has now joined the Xbox Game Studios umbrella.
Microsoft snapped up ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda, id Software and others, for a staggering $7.5 billion, making it the second most expensive video game studio acquisition ever.
The deal was announced via a blog post from Bethesda’s vice president Pete Hines, who reminisced about his 21 years at the company, stating that “we’re still Bethesda. We’re still working on the same games we were yesterday, made by the same studios we’ve worked with for years, and those games will be published by us.”.
Bethesda owns numerous franchises, including DOOM, Fallout, Elder Scrolls and many others which have justified the acquisition price.
Expect to see the latest Bethesda titles on Game Pass day one, which is a massive win for PC, Xbox and mobile users. PlayStation and Nintendo fans are currently being left in the dark on whether their future titles will be making their way to systems other than Xbox and PC.
