Let the mini craze continue
Though many of you are too young to appreciate the wonder of the retro mini gaming systems, for those of us that grew up in the 80s and 90s they are a beautiful thing. Personally, I haven’t been struck by the nostalgia that others have, as I never owned any of the consoles that have been remade. My time has now come with the Sega Genesis Mini. I grew up on this console so it is near and dear to my heart.
The day to remember is September 19th. That is when this lovely slice of childhood will be released with two wired controllers and 40 games. The retail price will be $79.99 USD and I’ve already told sega that I’d pay double if two of those games could be Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion. Hell, if throw in another fiver for Aladdin as well, but I digress.
For some reason, Sega has not announced all 40 games yet. We have the names of 10 so far and a promise that more will be revealed later. Of course, Sonic the Hedgehog was already announced. You can’t remake the Genesis and not have the best selling title. I’m sure the other two Sonic games will be there as well. It will also include another favorite of mine, Ecco the Dolphin where you inexplicably have to defeat a Xenomorph. Don’t ask questions. You must forgive these flights of fancy. It was dreary in the 90s.
The list of 10 games we know so far are:
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- Space Harrier 2
- Shining Force
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- Toe Jam & Earl
- Comic Zone
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Altered Beast
- Gunstar Heroes
As stated above, all of this plus 30 more games will be available on September 19, 2019
