Doug Bowser to fill his shoes

The legendary Reggie Fils-Aimé is retiring from his post as president of Nintendo’s America division.

Announced via a Twitter post, Reggie bidded his farewells to fans across the country who will remember him as being the COO and spokesperson of Nintendo of America. His charismatic and fun loving attitude made him an icon of the Nintendo community. For 15 years he worked for Nintendo, starting out as a executive VP of sales and marketing before entering the spotlight in 2006, assuming the role of COO.

In a speech to gamers on Twitter, Reggie formally announced his retirement from the company:

“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever. It’s a part that is filled with gratitude – for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”

Reggie shot to fame when he proudly announced “My name is Reggie. I’m about kickin’ ass, I’m about takin’ names, and we’re about makin’ games” in a speech in 2004. Since then he’s appeared in skits including the Robot Chicken Nintendo E3 special, my body is ready, Nintendo @ E3 2014 as well as countless of other sketches and Nintendo Directs.

Doug Bowser is set to take on the role of COO.

Filling his shoes is Doug Bowser (not that Bowser) who currently holds Reggie’s former role of VP of sales and marketing. Reggie put out a good word for him, claiming he too has a passion for video games and Nintendo. Doug also spoke about the promotion:

“It has been my great fortune to work with and be mentored by Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America and rest assured, we will continue to build on his work to evolve and expand our brand, furthering Nintendo’s global mission of creating smiles. There are millions more of those to come.”

It’s unclear what Reggie will do next, but we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and a huge thank you from everyone at Gamelust for proving video games can be enjoyed by everyone.

Reggie is due to retire on April 15th 2019.
