Steam to remove video section of site
Steam, PC gaming’s digital retailing giant has ditched the video section of their site.
An announcement from Valve earlier today confirmed that the video section of Steam – once home to dozens of films is now being dismantled due to a review carried out by Valve on what users watch, which from the sounds of it is only video game related films. The company issued a statment in a blog post:
“we have retired the Video section of the Steam Store menu with an expectation that video content is discovered via the associated game or software store page, or through search, user tags, recommendations, etc.”
Heading over to where the video section once laid will yield you the absence of films, including the entire library that Lionsgate uploaded as part of a deal made in 2016 which saw a plethora of films crop up for purchase on the gaming-centric storefront. Smaller titles are starting to disappear too as Valve slowly deconstruct the once almost-hidden section of Steam. Anyone who purchased a film will get to keep it as the videos section in the user library will still be present.
As well as early 2000s comedy sketches and low-budget indie films, the video section was home to some classics; Killing Floor, Football Manager and Grim Fandango had their own documentaries free for anyone to watch. Valve also had a documentary of their own that looked into the world of Dota esports and who can forget the 80s sci-fi kung fu ass kicking surprisingly entertaining Kung Fury?
Valve have not given any sort of window as to when the video section will be completely eradicated but in the meantime why not check out some titles and add them to your collection? We’ve compiled a list below of some of our favorites:
