Looter Shooter Amongst trio of games pulled from Epic store

In the midst of the Epic mega sale, upcoming looter shooter Borderlands 3 has been removed from the Epic Games Store.

The game is following Paradox’s Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 and Klei’s Oxygen not Included, two titles which have also been pulled from the store. It’s suspected that the removal is due to the sale’s ambitious discount of $10 off games over $15 which is being provided by Epic themselves if the store user activates 2FA. Publishers however aren’t as thrilled about Epic potentially serious incurring losses.

All three games have been removed from sale, replaced with a ‘coming soon’ button. Although 2K haven’t made a public statement yet, the following was provided to Eurogamer:

“We are working closely with Epic and have temporarily removed Borderlands 3 from their storefront. We look forward to the game being back on the Epic Games store soon. Games bought during their Mega Sale will be honored at that price.”

Borderlands 3 was revealed in April, almost 4 years since the last title in Gearbox Software’s critically acclaimed open world RPG and 7 years since the last major installment. The game sees previous characters exploring beyond the planet of Pandora in a bid to open the newly discovered vaults, and stop the Children of the Atom (and their twin leaders) from getting to them first.

The game was revealed as an Epic Games Store a week after being unveiled. The exclusivity deal (which is believed to be a legally binding contract) sees the game as an Epic Games Store exclusive until April 2020. This sparked backlash from the PC community, who have become accustomed to using Steam as their one stop launcher for their game library. Furthermore, Epic’s solution is missing a whole host of features including achievements, wishlists, workshop, screenshots and an overlay just to name a few.

It’s unclear when Borderlands 3 will be back up for pre-order again on the Epic Store, if at all but the safest bet right now is after the sale which is currently slated for June 13th.

Borderlands 3 is out September 13th on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
