Call of Cthulhu Gets a Much Awaited Release Date

Cthulhu is coming for you this fall

For those who love to be creeped out and not understanding what the hell is going on, Cyanide Studio has got you covered. The famous story of Call of Cthulhu is getting its own video game and it now has a release date. This game has been in the works for quite some time and thankfully we now know that the 30th of October is the day many of us have been waiting for. So far it seems to be something that would make H.P. Lovecraft proud.

Picture this, if you would. An entire family is murdered in their big, beautiful mansion. A private investigator named Pierce is sent to the remote island of Blackwater to investigate. The problem is, no one is overly willing to help. The residents don’t want to talk and the police will lie every chance they get. And so it up to you, as said private investigator, to figure out what on Earth is happening here. Oh, and there’s another little snag. The game is Called Call of Cthulhu. Meaning there is a tentacle-faced sea god out there somewhere, and something tells me he’s not very friendly.

Though the story itself sounds interesting, what is really intriguing about this game is one of the mechanics. You go more and more insane as the game progresses. So not only will you have to use clues to deduce what is going on, you will also have to determine what is even real. There are ways to combat this madness, however, this is a Lovecraft work. There is no chance Pierce is coming out of this with his sanity intact.

That being said, what is it that is making you insane? Pierce fought in WWI and the story starts in the early 1920s. Perhaps it is the horrors of war that have made him so susceptible that something slight might tip him over the edge. Or perhaps Cthulhu is real and has a sinister plan at work. Is everyone in Blackwater as crazy as you are, or are you just perceiving them to be when they are really just rude? So many questions. It makes October feel so far away.

At its core, Call of Cthulhu is an RPG, which of course means that there will be decisions that have to be made that will affect the outcome of the game.  But there are also skills that you can learn or upgrade along the way. You can acquire these skills in two different ways. One is the normal, completing quests grants you XP which you can use to unlock abilities. The other is through exploration. You can learn different things by examining notebooks and other items hidden about. So it is definitely in your best interest to explore as much as possible.

The wait is finally coming to an end. You will be able to play Call of Cthulhu on October 30 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. So prepare your excuses for not attending any Halloween parties now. We’re going to be busy.
