New dungeon crawler with familiar graphics
Minecon 2018 was a monumental event for fans of the 2009 block building sandbox; A major update was shown which includes revamped villagers (and their counterparts), pandas that hang out in clumps of bamboo and Minecraft Dungeons? Despite sounding like either a) an overhaul of the game’s procedurally generated structures or b) some new merchandise, Minecraft Dungeons is a standalone game.
Sold as a dungeon crawler taking place in the same style of the ever so popular Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons explores the world of the cult phenomenon by delving deep into its dark caves below the surface. Team up with three of your friends and ward off mobs as you search for better gear in Mojang’s blocky dungeon crawler. Here’s what the Swedish studio had to say about the upcoming title:
“It’s an all-new action-adventure game inspired by classic dungeon crawlers, where you’ll constantly discover new weapons and items that will help you defeat a ruthless swarm of new-and-nasty mobs. You’ll fight or flee through canyons, swamps and – of course – mines!
You can brave the dungeons alone, or team up with friends. Up to four players can battle together through action-packed, treasure-stuffed, wildly varied levels, all in an epic quest to save the villagers and take down the evil Arch-Illager!”
Who is the Arch-Illager? Are the levels procedural? Will Steve be a playable character? While we don’t know much about Minecraft: Dungeons, we do know that it’ll be arriving sometime next year for PC only. That’s right, this game will be a PC exclusive. Will it stay an exclusive? Probably not. At this point, all we can do is speculate as we still know very little. In the meantime, the latest update to Minecraft is something to write home about; rogue villagers hunting and destroying villages? Count me in!
