Super Mario Maker 2 is due for release next month and the fine folks at Nintendo held a 15 minute direct yesterday showing off some of the features of the new Mario level building sim. The game, though a bit of a retread of it’s predecessor on the Wii U, is doing what all great sequels do and adding to the foundation that was cemented with the original. You’ll see new themes from classic Mario titles, night levels and a new 100 level story mode that hopes to introduce players to the long list of new mechanics.
Story Mode:
In the single player story mode you set out to help Princess Peach rebuild her castle. Completing missions grants you rewards that you can then use to rebuild Peach’s Castle. There are 100 levels to complete and you’ll see old and new faces along the way.

New Themes:
Desert: The classic desert theme is back complete with Angry Sun to give you nightmares like when you were a kid or was that only me?

Snow: Winter levels are now included. Watch your step at night this becomes a slippy place. Mario might want to put on a jacket!

Forest: Look at that scared fish! The new water raising mechanic would work great with this theme.

Sky: Reach for the sky in sky levels! With the new scrolling feature these levels could get scary, real fast.

Night Levels: New to Super Mario Maker 2 is night levels. This changes some things about each level. Winter levels become slippery, poison pollutes the water of forest levels, underground the world flips upside down, on ground levels enemies float and on sky levels gravity is lower. Also items will change as well and cause harm to Mario.

Super Mario 3D World
The Super Mario World 3D style is now in Super Mario Maker 2. The style includes multiple features including Cat Mario, Cat Bowser, and items like Clear Pipes, Warp Boxes, and Crates. This mode function differently then other courses. So when you make a stage in this style it will clear your screen of any progress.
