World War 3 has received a new trailer today in the name of Gamescom. Developers Farm 51 (Known for Get Even and Painkiller: Hell and Damnation) revealed more footage from their upcoming 64-player FPS set in a battle-scarred world.
The trailer shows off a lot about the game; we see that players will be able to control airstrikes to shell out troops. Alternatively, players can hop into tanks and drive them alongside their comrades into battle. Throughout the trailer, action can be seen. Clouds of smoke given off by flying bullets and mammoth tanks are not in short supply. Make no mistake, World War 3 is an exhilarating ride.
Other tidbits of gameplay features were snuck into the video; for example, parkour is alive and well, including the ability to slide. Freelook is also present (and can prove useful in tense situations). Perhaps the most exciting feature (in my opinion) is the ability to shoot through thin walls. This can be seen during a segment of the game when the player is walking through a house and sees the enemy. Acting quickly, the player strafes to avoid gunfire and pops some shots through the wall, killing the enemy.
Taking place in Europe, World War 3 sees you duel it out in a 32v32 environment in locations such as Warsaw and Berlin. Every battle has a consequence on the world stage as a live map shows the effects of war which, according to the game’s website, will eventually ‘cover the entire planet’. To help you spread war across the lands, customizable guns are at your disposal. Furthermore, your character has a multitude of apparel options to choose from. Despite being launched on PC only, Farm 51 have expressed they would ‘seriously consider’ bringing the game to consoles if it were to make a splash on Steam.
While there is no concrete date, World War 3 is slated for a Fall 2018 release on PC.
