UK Video Game Charts: 8th – 14th October

After last week’s charts, i’ve decided instead of giving half assed comments on this week’s bestselling video games, i’ll present random facts you may not have known about them! Welcome to the new and improved UK Video Game Charts!

 

10. Grand Theft Auto V

Platforms: PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Position Last Week: 5th

When driving around the fictional city of Los Santos, using the handbrake is impossible if the player is on their phone. Remember, safety first.

 

9. Project Cars 2

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Position Last Week: 20th

During the production of Project CARS 2, the development team worked remotely in separate countries including Germany, the UK and the US.

 

8. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Position Last Week: 3rd

Crash wasn’t always a bandicoot; during the early concept stages, the protagonist was named Willie the Wombat and was, of course, a wombat. Eventually, the team settled on Crash Bandicoot after Naughty Dog threatened to drop the game’s production over the name.

 

7. Tekken 7

Tekken 2’s translocation advert won the 1996 Golden Joystick award for ‘Best Ad’.

 

6. Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Position Last Week: 3rd

The original Tomb Raider was built to mimic Indiana Jones. Little did they know, their imitation spawned one of the most popular video game franchise’s in the world.

 

5. Super Mario Party

Platform: Nintendo Switch

Goomba’s house appears in every board in Mario Party 2.

 

4. Marvel’s Spider-Man

Platform: PS4

Position Last Week: 2nd

Insomniac’s take on web slinging Peter Parking is classed as non canon in the MCU.

 

3. Forza Horizon 4

Platforms: Xbox One, Windows 10

The original Forza Horizon had over 300 cars!

 

2. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Before Edward Kenway named it after the bird from his birthplace of Wales, the Jackdaw from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was originally named El Dorado which translates to ‘a place of fabulous wealth or opportunity’, a reference to the trade the Caribbean held during the 18th century.

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch

Position Last Week: No Change

FIFA 14, often considered the franchise’s best entry, released on 14 different platforms! It also claimed the title (or at least shared it with PES) of being the last game to be released on the PlayStation 2.
