Ted Dabney, creator of Pong and co-founder of Atari has died after losing a battle with esophageal cancer.
Dabney an unknown trailblazer in the video game industry as not only did he create Pong, a game universally loved bringing fun to the television set but also Atari, a company known for dominating the arcades since the 80s. Ted left Atari in 1973 but his contribution to the company helped it evolve into the giant it is today.
Ted’s death was announced by his friend, Leonard Herman who wrote: “Rest in peace, my friend, your legacy will live for a long time!” He reportedly died last Saturday after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer at the end of 2017, opting against treatment.
