In a somewhat surprising move, Microsoft Studios and Remedy Entertainment have announced that they are releasing Quantum Break on Steam on September 14. There will be a retail release titled Quantum Break: Timeless Collector’s Edition and a digital release on Steam. Quantum Break is currently available for purchase in the Windows Store and Xbox Store for $39.99, while the Steam version will be available on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10.
The Quantum Break: Timeless Collector’s Edition will be brought to retail by the folks over at Nordic Games. Nordic has worked with Microsoft on several occasions to bring popular digital titles to retail. This would include working with Remedy on the PC version of Alan Wake, and also with Microsoft Studios on Ori and The Blind Forest: Definitive Edition, and State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition. Reinhard Pollice, a Business and Product Development Director for Nordic Games, said “we are proud to announce a new triangle-collaboration with two of our trusted partners. Apart from being a new IP (which is always a brave step), Quantum Break turned out to be a sophisticated, visually stunning shooter with a top-notch cast of actors.”
If you have not experienced this game yet, check out the Quantum Break game page for more information our most recent reviews. Quantum Break is an ambitious, action-packed third-person shooter from the creators of Max Payne and Alan Wake. You are Jack Joyce, a man who is able to bend and shape Time. The manipulation of Time really opens up your options in a gunfight. You can reverse the clock to send a bullet back into a gun, leap between cover spots in a blink, pop up next to an enemy to finish him off, and more. Playing the game is only one portion of Quantum Break’s “holistic entertainment experience.” There’s also a scripted series that details your enemies’ story. How you play the game shapes a personalized version of the TV series, and watching the show gives you strategies and insights into playing the game.
In my review of Quantum Break I stated that I felt that the game was not perfect and had quite a few flaws. But for all it’s flaws, Quantum Break is nearly a masterpiece. I really enjoyed the game on my first play through. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the TV show in between acts. And I most definitely HAD to play the game a second time through. This is a game that should be experienced by the majority of gamers who own an Xbox One or Windows 10 PC, and is a must for any time-based Sci-Fi fan. Now that the game is coming to Steam on Windows 7 and greater, there really is no good reason not to try out this fantastic game from one of the worlds premiere developers. I’ve played through the game almost 3 times now, and it is still as fun on my 3rd playthrough as it was on the first.
