GameTrailers Staff Forms An Easy Alliance

The people at GameTrailers, particularly Michael P. Huber, have had a long-running admiration for “uneasy alliances” in video games. It was to the point that their post-layoff Reddit page was named Uneasy Alliance.

Today, Brandon Jones along with the rest of his staff announced through various publications and forums that they’re moving on and taking that namesake to Patreon, YouTube and Twitch as “Easy Allies.” Easy Allies will be their own videogame-centric channel that will cover gaming news, let’s plays, live streaming and more. They’re promising that, so long as they can secure the necessary funding, they’ll also provide reviews and editorials. Those aspects tend to be very time consuming for limited staff.

Notably missing from their lineup is Don Casanova and Matt Blair, though it isn’t sure they won’t be involved.

Personally speaking, I’ve been a fan of the people at GT for a long time and wish them all the best. At the time of this writing, they’re at over 2,000 patrons and only $300 away from their $20,000/mo. pledge goal. No, now they’re less than $200 away. Hold on… I’m refreshing the page. $48 remaining.

GameTrailers was shut down by their owners, Defy Media, in early February with no warning to the few remaining employees. Fans of the site’s personalities pledged to to support them through Patreon if they formed their own outlet. Several weeks ago, Brandon Jones told Greg Miller and Colin Moriarty in their Kinda Funny Games podcast that he were looking into various possibilities including the route that Greg & Collin took of using Patreon, but warned that they may not be able to provide reviews and editorials with the limited funding of Patreon.

They just hit $20k.
