ERSB to Introduce ‘in Game Purchases’ Label

After the better end of a year of loot box controversy, ERSB has decided to introduce a new warning into their rating system. In a statement on Twitter ERSB. They admit they’ve been “a little quiet on the topic of in-game purchases and loot boxes” and are going to start adding a label (which they call “interactive element”) to physical copies of games with the ERSB rating.

The move comes after games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Call of Duty: WWII introduced unfair advantages to the games via loot boxes purchasable with money. This meant some players could progress faster than others if they had the money. Legal action was taken in many states and even went as far to a debate in Parliment in the UK. ERSB this is only “the first step of many”. Many criticised the new system as it classifies Breath of the Wild and Star Wars Battlefront 2 under the same label. ERSB say that they are working on it, repeating their ‘first step’ quote.
