Bethesda have published a roadmap for the year ahead in Fallout 76.
The Maryland-based studio have unveiled a content roadmap that outlines what’s to come from 2019 to their multiplayer post apocalyptic open world shooter Fallout 76. The post, published onto the Bethesda website, thanks fans for the support and promises ‘the start of something new’ in the form of free content coming in phases over the next year. Bethesda wrote:
“It’s a privilege to have such passionate and caring fans. We have big plans for 2019 and we’d love to hear your continued feedback on everything we’re doing. We hope you’ll keep sharing your thoughts with us on the forums, Reddit, in videos, and streams. Your voices push us to do better and your support has meant everything to us. We’ll do our best to earn it.”
What big plans you ask? Well, three major content updates are due out, starting with Wild Appalachia on March 12th. The update brings brewing and distilling to West Virginia’s post-apoc hills with players having the option to build a distillery in their C.A.M.P to produce Nukashine, which can supposedly be sold for caps or used when in battle and you’re low on health.
As well as booze, Wild Appalachia promises a new event, a new game mode dubbed ‘survival’ which lets you fight players without the restrictions that are currently in place. Fallout 76 will also be getting an enhanced camera and player vending, which has been a wanted feature since launch. There are also new quests, a legendary vendor that dishes out rare items and a customizable backpack system that allows for more storage, again a wanted feature since launch.
Following on from Wild Appalachia is Nuclear Winter (slated for a Summer release) which a new game mode to the game which is described by Bethesda as an ‘entirely new way to play that changes the rules of the wasteland’. New vault openings of Vault 96 & 98 (previously inaccessible) will allow for more vault raids. Bethesda are also adding in a prestige system, allowing players over level 50 to reset their progress in exchange for more ‘powerful abilities’.
The final content update of 2019 will be Wastelanders – Fallout 76’s ‘biggest and most ambitious update’, hailing the introduction of a new main quest line, new factions and new features – all kept under wraps for now.
Fallout 76 had a rocky launch, drawing criticism and controversy in the first week for a number of reasons, most notably the nylon bag distributed in the limited edition of the game as well as glitches, and bugs in the game itself. The result has been a number of lawsuits filed against Bethesda as well as countless public apologies. Not a great start for the game, but as seen above, Bethesda vows to amend their mistakes in the form of free content and continued support of the game despite the ruined reputation of the critically acclaimed Fallout franchises’s latest entry.
Fallout 76 is out now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
