Bandai Namco Unveils Code Vein, A New Game From the Developers of God Eater

Bandai Namco dropped some new details on their new game titled Code Vein today. Last weeks teaser trailer, seen below, sent fans into a tizzy as major game publications(i.e. the usual suspects… GameSpot, Polygon, etc…) tried desperately to tie this game to the Dark Souls franchise. But that hasn’t stopped Bandai Namco from jumping on that bandwagon themselves. Described as a “grueling action-RPG”, Code Vein is set to release in 2018 and is being developed by the team behind the God Eater series. While there may be some loose similarities and grueling is definitely a perfect descriptor for the Dark Souls series, Bandai Namco has yet to release an actual gameplay trailer.

This does not mean that Code Vein is lacking in promise. You play as a vampire who ‘feasts on the blood of your enemies’ as you ‘journey across a massive interconnected world to unlock its mysterious sanguine past.’ Sounds pretty cool so far ehh? The good news is we won’t have to wait very long to find out how similar this may or may not be to Dark Souls. Bandai Namco has promised a gameplay trailer will be out sometime in May. According to the developers the game is 35% complete and will be releasing on “major home consoles” in 2018.

The full description as provided by Bandai Namco is as follows:

In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world, as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the centre of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity.

In this challenging action-RPG, CODE VEIN finds players assuming the role of a Revenant. After stumbling into Vein, players are tasked to embark into the world with a companion picked from the various residents of Vein to uncover lost memories and an exit out of this new demented reality. The world of CODE VEIN is dangerous, full of vicious enemies and monstrous bosses to put players’ combat skills to the test.

Revenants also have access to Blood Veils, devices capable of draining the blood of their enemies in order to enhance their own abilities. Exploiting these enhanced abilities known as Gifts, players can change their form to increase their strength, weaken enemies, and utilise new weapon abilities with overpowered attacks. Utilising the vast array of weaponry along with each character’s Gift, players can adapt and strategize to a variety of battle conditions that suit their play styles.

Along with the reveal Bandai Namco also provided the public with roughly 30 screenshots of the game which we will include in the gallery on the game page(we’re still working on bringing the galleries to the news pages). You can check out a few of these below, or check out the Code Vein game page to view the full gallery.
